The Artist: Joanne A. Rubino
The Early Years |
Joanne A. Rubino was born in Ithaca, New York, the picturesque Finger Lakes region of the state. Her interest in Art began during visits to some of the premier art museums in New York City such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Joanne's art education began with undergraduate studies in Massachusetts and Vermont. Her studies of the European cultures and Modern Languages of France, Spain and Portugal developed into her love of art and art history as parallel aspects within each culture.
In 1979, Joanne spent her Junior Year Abroad studying art and art history at the University of Dijon, France with an emphasis in French Renaissance and Baroque Art. During this time Joanne enjoyed visiting the Louvre and many other Museums and Galleries in Paris and Dijon.
By the early 1980's she returned to the states and became a member of the Southern Vermont Art Association in Manchester, Vermont. Joanne has continued her studio art and has had numerous private showings in Vermont, Arizona and Wyoming.
Moving to the Western United States in the later part of the 80's, Joanne obtained a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Wyoming and went on to study the Arts of Asia and the Americas at the University of Colorado at Boulder, receiving a Master's Degree in Art History in 1993.
While putting together an extensive portfolio of paintings, she also taught art and art history at Universities and Colleges in both Wyoming and Colorado.
Recently, Joanne has had well-received multiple shows in Wyoming. She operates a small studio gallery in Lander, Wyoming, Canyon Street Gallery.
Joanne works in predominately oil paintings of colorful landscapes, classical nudes/figurative, and still-life, in American and European traditions by famous Modern artists such as Matisse, Gauguin, Cassatt, Kahlo, VanGogh, and many others. |
